Cockpit Type 440 USN. 1930's Navy Fighter Pilot Jacket
In the 1930's, for the first time, closed cockpit flight was becoming common, yet pilots had to leave their canopy open on take-offs and landings in case of emergencies where they could be extracted by deck crews. The Type 440 provided the comfort and protection they needed in these critical moments. 100% government spec goatskin has distinctive USN specified diamond shaped reinforcement elbow patches, a smooth nylon lining, concealed side entry pockets, smooth straight leather bottom with no knit elastic to bind and an inside chest pocket. Cockpit 1942 Reproduction B-3 Jacket
The ultimate collector's B-3 shearling flight jacket, patterned after the early 1942 issue russet colored jacket. The shearling pelts are specially hand selected and matched for authentic vintage coloring. Their may be may be shading on the color just as in the original. This historical jacket features the single horsehide front patch pocket, horsehide covered reinforced sleeves and shoulder tabs on which officers rank may be attached. Vintage labeling and heavy latigo leather belting straps on each side of the waist and heavy belting straps around the snap down shearling collar (another original feature) that make this a classic must have. Cockpit R.A.F. Sheepskin Jacket
Manufactured following the 1938 Irvin Airchute Co. pattern, this jacket was a hero of the Battle of Britain. English fighter and bomber pilots wore this superb garment while fighting off Nazi bombers over London in their Spitfire fighters. This had to be a warm but yet free moving garment to let pilots and aircrew perform their duties in the confined space of their aircraft. It uses hand cut supple American sheepskin pelts. Original details include zippered cuffs, leather welting on seams, leather belt closures, underarm grommets, an inside canvas equipment pouch and a full front zipper over storm flap.
