Spyderco Stainless Steel Poliwog Knife

A pollywog represents metamorphosis in the animal kingdom, adapting and changing its form to survive in its environment. The same principle applies here. The Spyderco Poliwog CLIPIT thrives in a small-knife-friendly environment while keeping the features necessary to excel in a harsh, heavy cutting and performance setting. Its distinctive opened-ended Ball Bearing Lock™ exposes the knife’s inner workings for easy cleaning and rates as one of Spyderco’s highest strength locking mechanisms. Pulling back on the ball unlocks the blade ambidextrously from either side of the knife. The hand settles on the curved handle positioning the index finger into a choil that optimizes control and generates less fatigue and pressure on the hand during cutting. Made from VG-10, the blade has a hollow-ground edge with a weight reducing swedge-grind extending mid-spine to the tip. It is available PlainEdged. Its ambidextrous wire-tension pocket clip sets the Poliwog tip-up in the pocket.

  • Length overall 5 5/8" (143 mm)
  • Blade length 2 5/16" (59 mm)
  • Blade steel VG-10

Spyderco Volpe Knife

Spyderco Volpe Knife

The name Fox Cutlery is well known throughout Europe. Fox started manufacturing knives in the 1970s in Maniago, Italy. They swiftly gained a reputation for pairing traditional materials with quality construction and pioneering designs. After they opened for business they collaborated with another knife company in Maniago called Lion Steel Knife and began using high-grade finishing and CNC machining. Recently the Fox and the Spyder were introduced. The outcome is a Spyderized knife designed by Gabriele Frati and Gianni Pauletta (also known as G&G design) that is manufactured in Maniago. We call it the Volpe (fox in Italian). As expected from Spyderco the C99 has a Round Hole and calculated ergonomics. These contemporary Spyderco features are striking when set alongside a more traditional European stainless handle that is overlaid in blonde olivewood. The blade is available flat-ground in a PlainEdge configuration. It is made of N690Co, a cobalt additive steel manufactured in Europe. Positioned forward of the Spyderco Round Hole sits an indentation, ready to hold the index finger securely on the blade, boosting control. The backside of the handle doubles as an integral Chris Reeve-style LinerLock and has a Spyderco bug laser cut in detail out of the steel scale.

  • Length overall 7 7/16" (189 mm)
  • Blade length 3 7/16" (87 mm)
  • Blade steel N690Co

Spydero Kumo Fixed Blade Knife

Spydero Kumo Fixed Blade Knife

Kumo is Japanese for spider and a fitting name for the new Japanese influenced fixed blade knife designed by custom knifemaker R.J. Martin and manufactured by Spyderco. A self-professed steel junkie, R.J. Martin is celebrated for integrating multiple grind lines on the blades of his knife designs. Made from a solid 9-inch piece of VG-10 steel, the Kumo blade has two definite grinds: a swedge-grind along the spine and a hollow-grind above the non-serrated cutting edge. Converging in the center of the blade the two grind lines meet creating a look that is streamlined and pleasingly tapered. Where the thumb naturally settles on the blade are a series of notches that latch onto the thumb pad adding an appreciative level of grip and cutting control. In Japanese fashion, the handle is wrapped with epoxy-saturated cord over an undercoat of pebbly black stingray skin that has a silver Spyderco bug Menuki peeking through the wrapping. The Kumo slips into in a fitted black Kydex sheath mounted with a TekLok® detachable polymer clip that can be situated to carry the knife in five different carry positions: vertical, inverted, cross-draw, small of back or horizontal position. Overall length of the Kumo is 8-5/16” (211mm) it’s PlainEdge cutting edge is 3-3/4” (95mm) and it weighs 3 oz (85g).

Spyderco Bill Moran Featherweight Fixed Blade Knife

Spyderco Bill Moran Featherweight Fixed Blade Knife

Bill Moran is recognized as the grandfather of American custom knifemaking and the founding father of the American Bladesmith Society. He started pounding steel, making knives more than fifty years ago. If you're lucky enough to find a custom-made Moran to buy, expect to shell out five-figures, minimum. His work and designs are that revered. Spyderco is privileged to offer a production fixed-blade collaboration patterned in Bill Moran's ageless tradition. We've made it available in two distinct blade shapes. The FB01 (pictured) has an upswept Bowie-style blade, the FB02, a drop-point shape (see related item below). Both blades are flat-ground VG-10 and carry Bill's signature. They are tapered, starting thick where the blade joins the handle, thinning down the spine to a fine, uniformly ground tip. In the hand the knife conveys a unique feeling of balance, called by some a sweet spot. The sweet spot is due to the blade and handle being comparable in weight. This balance transfers into a feeling of steady control over the cutting edge. The FRN handle three-dimensionally fills out the palm and is inlayed with a panel of non-sliding Kraton. Highly recommended for hunting and camping both models come in a molded Kydex sheath with multi-position Tek-Lok fastening system.

  • Length overall 8" (203 mm)
  • Blade length 3 7/8" (99 mm)
  • Blade steel VG-10
  • Length closed N/A (N/A)
  • Cutting edge 3 1/2" (89 mm)
  • Weight 3 oz (84 g)

Spyderco Vagabond Fixed Blade Knife

Spyderco Vagabond Fixed Blade Knife

The Spyderco Vagabond is designed for the wanderer. If you backpack, camp or picnic, chances are you've at some point needed a lightweight fixed-blade. The strong point of a fixed-blade knife is that they are manufactured from a single piece of steel with no folding parts to fail or break- ideal for use outdoors. A fixed-blade's weak point is they require a separate carry sheath for safe transport. The Vagabond's unique plastic sheath is made from part of the underside of the handle. A plastic cover pivots out/upward, snapping-over and safely covering the cutting edge eliminating the need for a bulky carrying sheath. Sized to toss in a backpack or picnic basket, the FB12 is 7-7/8 inches (200mm) long tip to toe. Its blade is 3-1/8 inches (79mm) of AUS-6 stainless steel honed in a PlainEdge configuration, then ground-flat on both sides creating a powerful high-performance edge. The FRN handle is injection molded in a series of valleys and expansions providing ergonomic purchase to wrap your hand around. It comes covered with a slip-free Bi-Directional Texture pattern that latches onto your palm keeping the hand and handle connected even when wet or cold. A generously sized lanyard hole allows a cord or thong to be strung through the handle for security around water, in deep brush or attaching the knife to a pack, basket or duffle.

  • Length overall 7 7/8" (200 mm)
  • Blade length 3 1/8" (79 mm)
  • Blade steel AUS-6
  • Length closed N/A (N/A)
  • Cutting edge 2 7/8" (73 mm)
  • Weight 2.8 oz (79 g)
  • Hole diameter N/A (N/A)
